At the Youth Job Connection, we know finding a job in today's workforce takes a lot of time and effort. We provide youth ages 14-24 assistance in all aspects of the job search process, including job leads, resume workshops and interview skills.
WE TEACH YOU HOW TO GET A JOB Everyone visiting the Youth Job Connection has the opportunity to earn a Certificate of Completion after completing the following classes:
Assessment Discover more about yourself and your potential job interests
Resume Development Work with our career counselors to develop a resume that shows your abilities and experience
Basic Customer Service Learn what customer service is and how you can provide exceptional customer service
Job Readiness Skills Learn interview skills, job search tips, good work behaviors and habits, and how to complete an application
Financial Education Gain skills that will make you a better money manager one you have a job

Specialized Training Opportunities
|
The Youth Job Connection offers specialized training in the following fields:
ServSafe Training Food safety training that will prepare you for taking the exam for ServSafe certification, an industry-recognized credential
CPR / First Aid The
perfect opportunity for those interested in health-related fields,
athletics, or as care providers for children or the elderly
Lifeguard Training Develop the skills and experience necessary to be hired (must be at least 15 years old)
Safety / OSHA Training An introduction to OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles
Basic Retail & Cashier Training Addresses the importance of good customer service, safety awareness, stocking and hands-on cashier training

Mayor's Youth Employment Program
|
As a component of the Youth Job Connection, the Mayor's Youth Employment Program (MYEP) provides high school seniors (particularly students from Charlotte-Mecklenburg FOCUS schools) the opportunity to explore careers of interest before graduation. To be considered for the program, the applicants must:
- Be a high school senior
- Have a Certificate of Completion from the Youth Job Connection
- Successfully complete an application and a background check/drug screening
- Demonstrate work experience or participation in extracurricular activities
- Obtain a professional/personal reference
As a participant in MYEP, you will receive job mentoring, coaching and valuable hands-on experience with one of our business partners*. MYEP participants will also receive a certificate of completion from the Mayor.

www.jobdoggy.com is a job and career site for teenagers. The teen can search for jobs (by category and location), find volunteering opportunities, register his/her profile (resume), and find job-search guidance.
www.nextsteps.org is a full-featured employment, career development and job finding resource for youth. It includes a monthly “ezine” that features a specific industry in each issue.
www.groovejob.com is a great job and career site for older teens—high school and college age students—to find both part-time and full-time jobs. But more than that, the site is also a career resource, offering job search tips and advice, money and budgeting advice, as well as academic resources.
www.myfuture.com is from the US Department of Defense. It is a great resource for high school and college students, with information and resources about careers and career assessment, job-hunting, finances and of course, the benefits of a military career.
www.myfirstpaycheck.com is a unique teen job site because the site itself is fun and where teen job-seekers can search for job and volunteering opportunities as well as find advice and resources for a successful job application process.
www.teenjobsection.com is a new job and career site for teens. The site lists summer jobs, seasonal jobs, student jobs, non-profit jobs and more—in all fifty states. The site includes a growing list of career resources for teens new to job-seeking.
www.teens4hire.org is a job site for teens (ages 14+) looking for a full-time, part-time, summer or vocational job. The site accepts all types of job openings: full-time, part-time, seasonal, vocational, apprentice, internship, co-op, volunteer, military, etc. Registration is required to use any of the resources on the site.
Remember, don’t get discouraged. This is just your first job and the job search skills you are learning with help you throughout your life.
