Goodwill Program: South Boulevard JobLink and Hospitality & Tourism Training

“Goodwill set me on a course. Now, I have something I love going to every day. Goodwill gives you the tools to be successful.”

Lacking updated computer skills and a resume after moving from New York, Shell could not find a stable job nor a consistent paycheck. Through the South Boulevard JobLink, she learned about Goodwill’s Hospitality and Tourism Training program – a class she credits for “changing her life.” She enrolled in the six-week course and graduated with three job offers.

Fast forward three years and Shell’s life has changed dramatically. She has a rewarding career working at the Hampton Inn University Place as a sales coordinator and has moved from living with a friend to owning her own home. Shell received a GoodWork award at Goodwill’s Cornerstone Celebration in May 2009.

More importantly, Shell has renewed confidence and career aspirations.

“Goodwill prepared us above and beyond,” Shell says. “It is definitely college level in its training. Goodwill changed my life by setting a very high bar when it comes to work ethic.”

Shell says she also greatly benefited from Goodwill’s customer service curriculum, which she applies to her job every day.

“One of the things I appreciated the most about Goodwill is they really stress customer service,” Shell says. “It is very important in the hospitality industry.”
