Goodwill Program: Banking and Customer Service Program

“It all started with a donation and one change on my part.”

When her company went through a merger in 2008, Lisa found herself without a job for the first time in her life. Over the years, she had built experience in customer service, brokerage, sales and a variety of other professional industries, but that experience by itself was no longer enough to find a good job.

As the economy fell, so did Lisa’s confidence. “I sent out my resume, but didn’t get any responses,” she said. “I became really depressed.”

She knew that Goodwill offered employment assistance, but it wasn’t until her son returned from a stint overseas and was looking for work that she finally turned to the organization for help. “Once we were there, I realized that Goodwill might be able to help me too,” she said. She met with CDS II Annette Schneider, took the entrance test and entered the Banking & Customer Service training class last fall.

“The class helped me build back that confidence I had lost,” Lisa said. She landed a job in her chosen field of customer service less than three months after graduating.

Lisa is continuing her educating by taking classes that her company offers, and will soon return to college to finish her degree in business management. She has even picked up kickboxing, and is healthier and happier than ever.

“I love coming to work every day – I love my job, and I can’t say that about every job I’ve ever had. This is one of those rare cases.”
