When he was introduced to our Operation Independence program specifically for veterans, he said that he felt important for the first time in a long time, and that he had been given the equal rights he had fought to save. He was able to gain basic technology skills and training in Microsoft Office through the program, and went through mock interviews and resume preparation to help prepare him to apply for a position in civilian life.
Edwin was referred to our GoodWork Staffing company and was placed in a temporary position with a local furniture manufacturing company. Due to his hard work, his updated skills and his determination, Edwin was offered a full-time position with the company just two months later.
With ongoing support, training and encouragement, Edwin was able to succeed in achieving his goals. He has now been employed full-time for just under one year. In May 2012, Edwin was named one of Goodwill’s GoodWork! Award winners at our annual Cornerstone Celebration luncheon. He is clean and sober, looking to purchase a home, and has a new path for his life.
