WIA Youth

The WIA Youth Program provides youth ages 16-21 with training and guidance to help prepare them for successful employment in a competitive workforce.

Program services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual and may include:  tutoring, GED preparation, paid and unpaid work experience, occupational skills training, leadership development opportunities, adult mentoring and supportive services such as transportation and childcare assistance.

Schedule: The WIA Youth Program training, meetings and events will be held at two locations: Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont’s Career Development Center at 2122 Freedom Drive in Charlotte and Urban League of the Central Carolinas at 740 West Fifth Street in Charlotte.

Hours: Monday–Friday from 8:30am until 4:30pm

Eligibility: To be eligible for the WIA Youth Program an individual must be:

  • Between the ages of 16-21 at the time of enrollment
  • Live in Mecklenburg County
  • Be out of school
  • Meet low-income requirements
  • AND meet at least one barrier to employment as listed below:
    • Deficient in basic literacy skills – below 9th grade reading and math levels
    • School drop out
    • Homeless
    • A runaway
    • In foster care
    • Pregnant or parenting
    • An offender
    • One who requires “additional assistance.”
