Goodwill Program:  Organizational Employment Services & Goodwill Employee 

“When I first came to Charlotte, I felt there was no help for me.  Then, I found Goodwill.”

After graduating from the School for the Deaf in Riverside, California, Scott moved to Charlotte to be near his brother. “At first it was hard finding employment services available to the deaf,” Scott said. Then, Scott was directed to Goodwill Industries. 

At Goodwill, Scott was immediately greeted by an interpreter and assigned a job coach who was fluent in sign language. “I felt comfortable right away,” Scott said.  Following a thorough evaluation of his aptitude and abilities, Scott worked in Goodwill’s Commercial Services to improve his job readiness skills.    

Within months, Scott was hired to operate the baling machine at Goodwill’s Retail Operations. Scott’s supervisor, Rodney Conklin, praises his work. “Scott is a valuable employee and does so much for us. He’s great at fixing things and making minor repairs. He’s been with us 10 years, and is one of our best employees."
