In an effort to support the Donate Movement, Gap Inc. and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont have announced a new partnership, urging the community to clean out their closets for a cause. From May 19-29, participating Gap stores in the Charlotte Metro area will accept donations of gently used clothing in an effort to educate the public on the positive impacts donations can have on both people and the planet.
When dropping off donations at local Gap stores and any of the 30-plus Goodwill donation sites, donors will receive a discount voucher for 30-percent off of their entire Gap purchase. The coupon includes all regularly priced items and sale items.
“Through the Donate Movement, Goodwill aims to increase donations by raising awareness of the power donated goods can have in strengthening our community,” stated Goodwill’s PR and Promotions Manager Lelia King. “Donating to Goodwill is an investment in your community and enables individuals to receive essential skills and training to succeed in acquiring a job and excelling in a career.”
Ninety cents of every dollar spent in Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont’s retail stores is funneled into job training and employment programs. Bobbi Silten, head of global responsibility and president of Gap Foundation, stated, “as a company, we invest in career exploration and job readiness for youth, and thousands of our employees volunteer to help young people prepare for the workforce. Giving our customers and employees opportunities to donate clothing in support of Goodwill’s job training programs is a great fit with our community efforts.”
